During the first week of April, we ran our annual 3-day golf trip which was again at the Murray Downs Resort at Swan Hill.
Our field was down on last year due mainly to covid, but there were 21 golfers (and 4 ladies, nonplaying.) Besides taking out winner and runner-up in the two 18-hole events, the ladies took most of the balls in the ball run-down awards.
The two 18-hole competitions for the Howlong Perpetual Trophy and the Warburton Heirloom Trophy were both won by Kaye Bradd. Yolanta Cupples was runner-up.
The last event was the putting competition for the Bill Gillingham Memorial Trophy. The runner-up was Rod Hammond, and the winner was John Howe (much applause).
We also have a perpetual aggregate trophy for the player who collects the most points for the two main events. Kaye Bradd was a very clear winner (left).
31 members and wives made the trip which included 25 competitors.
Day 1Ā Howlong Perpetual Trophy – Winner – Alan Stephen, 38 points. Runner up – Peter Longcraine.
Day 2Ā Warburton Trophy –Ā Winner Sandra Mckenzie – Runner up –Ā Margery Renwick.Ā

This was John Pound’s first year as Golf Group Leader. he organised theĀ three day event at Port Fairy.
It was a resounding success in a superb location. The course is testing but magnicent overlooking the ocean. The wind can hamper even the best golfers.

Bill Gillingham Trophy was won by Dick Kirby

Our 3 day golf event started around 1994 with a small group headed by Bill and Mary Gillingham. They played at the Howlong Country Club.
The event expanded and became a major part of our Probus year. Organisers over the years included Alan Nash, Rod Murrell and finally Geoff Wade who ran it for some 7 years.
The competition lapsed after Geoff retired from hosting it. It was re-started by John Pound who meved the event initially to Port Fairy and then to Murray Downs and Rich River.
Garry Bradd took over after John retired.
